Thailand is in deep mourning as Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother and wife of the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej, passed away peacefully on October 24, 2025, at the age of 93 in Bangkok’s Chulalongkorn Hospital.
The Royal Household Bureau announced a one-year national mourning period, and black-and-white attire is being encouraged nationwide.
Public institutions are flying flags at half-mast, and entertainment venues in Bangkok, Pattaya, and Chiang Mai are limiting their hours out of respect.
Queen Sirikit was loved for her decades of work in rural development, women’s empowerment, and the promotion of Thai silk on the world stage.
Her birthday, August 12, remains celebrated as Mother’s Day in Thailand.
🕯️ A graceful queen whose kindness and dignity shaped modern Thailand.
